چکیده

An electrically controllable fiber Bragg grating (FBG) with polarization-dependent characteristics is described. The optic axis of a liquid crystal (LC) can be rearrangeable by means of external electric fields, which results in the change of an effective refractive index of an LC. The reflectivity and Bragg wavelength of an LC-cladding FBG can be controlled according to the refractive index of surrounding region of the fiber which is determined by the refractive index of the LC-cladding. The tuning ranges of the LC-cladding FBG were 4:6 dB of the reflectivity and 0:3 nm of Bragg wavelength based on unpolarized light, respectively, and polarization isolation of 1.5 dB was achieved at 100Vp{p based on polarized light. Light Polarization-Assisted Sensing with Tilted Fiber Bragg Gratings

Tilted fiber Bragg gratings (TFBGs) are short-period gratings for which the refractive index modulation of the fiber core is angled by a few degrees with respect to the perpendicular to the propagation axis. They induce two kinds of light coupling: the self-backward coupling of the core mode at the Bragg wavelength and the backward coupling between the core mode and several tens of cladding mod...

Polarization properties of chiral fiber gratings

Recent experiments (Kopp et al 2007 J. Opt. Soc. Am. B 24 A48) have demonstrated that the polarization sensitivity of chiral fiber gratings depends strongly on the grating symmetry: double-helix fibers are polarization sensitive while single-helix fibers are not. A coupled-mode perturbation theory is developed and used to explain the polarization properties of chiral fiber gratings. Features of...

Investigation of Bragg Gratings Recorded in Polymer- Dispersed Liquid Crystals

Bragg gratings, holographically formed in polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (H-PDLCs) are studied. Mixture of the commercially available E7 liquid crystal and NOA65 polymer in ration 1:1 are employed. Polymerisation in presence of electric field is produced. A significant increase of the diffraction efficiency in the case of field-applied recording is observed. The exposure characteristics, ele...

Orientation-Dependent Displacement Sensor Using an Inner Cladding Fiber Bragg Grating

An orientation-dependent displacement sensor based on grating inscription over a fiber core and inner cladding has been demonstrated. The device comprises a short piece of multi-cladding fiber sandwiched between two standard single-mode fibers (SMFs). The grating structure is fabricated by a femtosecond laser side-illumination technique. Two well-defined resonances are achieved by the downstrea...

A Temperature-Insensitive Cladding-Etched Fiber Bragg Grating Using a Liquid Mixture with a Negative Thermo-Optic Coefficient

To compensate for the temperature dependency of a standard FBG, a cladding-etched FBG immersed with a liquid mixture having a negative thermo-optic coefficient is presented, and its characteristics are investigated. The Bragg wavelength of the cladding-etched FBG is shifted counter to the direction of the Bragg wavelength shift of a conventional FBG according to the mixing ratio of glycerin to ...
